The GRT Grasser Racing Team is in the middle of an exciting fight after twelve hours (the half-way stage) of the 70th Total 24 Hours of Spa.
After a double stint, Perera handed the #82 over to Phil Keen firmly in 11th place with the gap to the race leader of just one lap. The team was battling to get into the top 10, when unfortunately, Keen had contact with the #51 Ferrari and got a puncture, which dropped them back to P30. Moments later, Keen handed the car to Rolf Ineichen in P28 and just before the red flag the #82 moved up to P26. The race had been red-flagged in the tenth hour following incidents at Raidillon involving two cars.
The Lamborghini Huracán GT3 #19 of Marco Mapelli, Raffaele Giammaria and Ezequiel Perez Companc was running in P19, which was also one lap behind the leader at the half-way distance, and 245 laps in the book.
Phil Keen (Lamborghini Huracán GT3 #82 ): “I was behind the wheel and we were running in the top 10 when I got a puncture after an incident with the #51 Ferrari. I had decided to drive to the pitlane and we lost 2-3 laps. But we are running now in P27, so we will see if we can get some laps back.”
Raffaele Giammaria (Lamborghini Huracán GT3 #19): “Now we are fighting in P19 and it’s a good position to be in, considering that we started from P28. The last six hours have been quite good for us and we haven’t done any mistakes. The car seems better compared to the first 6 hours and seeing improving lap times as well. If we don’t make any mistakes I think we can gain a lot more positions. Considering our pace, the goal is to finish in the top 10, which I think it’s possible. Now we are waiting for the restart after the huge crash. I hope that the drivers have no injuries.”
